Youth Recreation Program
The Youth Recreation Program starts in November 2021. The program is integrated into other programs, so all youth who access any program at the organization have the opportunity to participate. Having daily recreational activities planned, organized, and marketed in a timely manner to the youth who live at the Youth Dorms, those that stay at the Youth Shelter, those in the Youth Housing Program, and those that attend the Youth Centre, is important in supporting their success in life. The Recreation Program will include daily, structured recreational activities such as going to the gym, playing sports and games, going on day trips, hosting bonfires, going to community events, going to the theatre, hosting movie nights, hosting themed parties, going skiing, biking, canoeing, etc.
Why is this program important?
The recreation program provides the following benefits:
-activities for youth to be engaged in during the evenings and weekends
-surrounding youth with a good support group, thus giving youth opportunity to develop relationships with caring adults who they can rely on
-provide a supervised activity where youth can spend time with friends in a safe environment
-providing youth with regular outlets to spend their time and energy
-providing youth with opportunities to learn new skills (such as weightlifting, boxing, skiing, etc.) and focus on new interests
Who is this program for?
This program is for youth aged 12 - 24 who live in the Home Base Youth Dorms, access the Youth Shelter, are part of the Youth Housing Program, and/or attend the Youth Centre.
The Recreation Program is funded by the GNWT Justice Department from November 1 2021 - March 31 2023.
