PROGRAMS
Programming is essential at Home Base YK, where we integrate life skills, cultural elements and educational supports in all of the spaces we provide. Keeping youth engaged exposes them to many different opportunities in life that could lead them on a path to a bright future.

The Month's Events

Kitchen Talks Table Talks
Leko (Taste Good) is a healthy and traditional food program launched through the Hazho Ełexè Łets'eèzeh Network and delivered at the Home Base Youth Centre. The program is typically held on Wednesday evenings, as well as on additional dates determined during planning sessions to best meet youth availability and interest. Through this program, youth are actively engaged in hands -on cooking sessions that focus on both healthy and traditional foods.

Recreation Program
The Recreation Program is extremely successful and gives all youth the opportunity to participate. Having daily recreational activities planned, organized, and marketed in a timely manner support any youth that accessed our programs. The Recreation Program will include daily, structured recreational activities such as going to the gym, playing sports and games, going on day trips, hosting bonfires, going to community events, going to the theatre, hosting movie nights, hosting themed parties, going snowboarding, skiing, biking, hiking, canoeing, etc.

Gender Based Violence Program
The GBV Program offers trauma-informed counselling to help youth feel supported, understood, and safe. Weather in one-on-one sessions or group settings, counselling is a space to talk about your experience, build trust, and learn healthy ways to cope, all at your own pace.
This program uses a harm reduction approach, offering education about gender-based violence. This may include how to recognize the signs, set boundaries, understand your rights. This helps you stay informed and make choices that feel safe and right for you.
It also includes cultural programming that helps youth reconnect with their roots through healing circles led by Indigenous Elders or Cultural knowledge holders, traditional arts, and land-based activities. These experiences can strengthen your sense of identity, pride, and connection to community.
