WHAT IS KITCHEN TALK?

Leko (Taste Good) is a healthy and traditional food program launched through the Hazho Ełexè Łets'eèzeh Network and delivered at the Home Base Youth Centre. The program is typically held on Wednesday evenings, as well as on additional dates determined during planning sessions to best meet youth availability and interest. Through this program, youth are actively engaged in hands -on cooking sessions that focus on both healthy and traditional foods.

Participants learn about the nutritional value and benefits of the foods being prepared, as well as how these foods support overall wellness, energy and long-term health.

The program creates a supportive and welcoming space where youth can build confidence in the kitchen while developing practical life skills related to meal preparation and food safety. The program also places a strong emphasis on cultural connection. Youth are encouraged to learn about traditional food practices and the cultural teachings connected to them through organic, experiential learning methods.

By preparing and sharing meals together, youth strengthen their connection to culture, community, and one another in a meaningful and respectful way. Overall , the program promotes healthy eating habits, self-sufficiency, and positive decision-making, while supporting youth wellness and cultural pride though food, storytelling, and shared experiences.

EVERY WEDNESDAY FROM 4:00 PM TO 6:00 PM
