Homelessness Stats
The need for safe, stable housing for youth in Canada is urgent and deeply serious, as thousands of young people experience homelessness each year due to family conflict, poverty, involvement in the child welfare system, mental health challenges, and lack of affordable housing.
Without early intervention, youth homelessness often becomes chronic, increasing the risk of exploitation, substance use, involvement with the justice system, and long-term unemployment.
Many young people who age out of government care face particular vulnerability, as they may lack financial support, life skills, or stable adult connections. Preventing homelessness among youth requires more than emergency shelters; it demands investment in affordable housing, transitional and supportive housing programs, mental health services, education access, and employment opportunities.
By prioritizing stable housing solutions tailored specifically to young people, Canada can reduce long-term social costs and, more importantly, ensure that vulnerable youth have the foundation they need to build safe, healthy, and productive futures.
